Here is an extract from one of the conversations that took place during the project at Valentines Mansion:
‘Local, public house, public toilet, council, counsellor, man, woman, talk, cheap, charity shops, books, Ilford, stories, block of flats.
Local to block of flats, that’s true as there are so many flats being built now. It’s kind of scary because we have all this demand for housing, but the services don’t really meet the demand, there’s an influx of people. The library is small as it is. They’re trying to cut out libraries.
They should be expanding the library. It’s important for children to read, they’re playing video games and watching television instead. I remember the original library; there was a wonderful smell of all the old books. When I was a child I used to love going there, and I used to work in there as well. I used to stamp the books when people were going out.’
